This is the first time I make chai

I have never been a huge fan since the kind I have tasted were these very milky and sweet chais made from some weird powder. But last saturday I met up with my sister is what is quickly becoming my biggest love/hate place in Copenhagen: Torvehallerne.

It is a newly built temple for foodies, but as one could have predicted it is a big cliché of overpriced high class stuff and not the abundance of fruit, vegetables, meat and fish I would have hoped for. I grew up in a town with a weekly market and Torvehallerne could use some of the lowbrow, loudmouth style of that market!

Well, back to the chai -and to why Torvehallerne is not all bad. There is some really delicious things hiding in there (like The Coffee Collective) and my sister and I stopped by a spice shop where the owner served spicy hot chai to everyone.

And thus I was sold. The chai is a spice mix from Asa. You add fresh ginger and bring it to a light boil. Then you add milk, sugar and a common black tea and after a couple of minutes you have the most delicious and spicy tea perfect for january and the constant feeling of a cold coming on.

▶ Aya: Yeah, she knows where everything is! -My problem with notebooks is that I leave them in my bag and forget to open them!
▶ Sophia: Me too!
▶ B: Det gør vi
▶ Trula: Yes, I think it is gonna be something like brightly colored sticky notes with big letters on them!
▶ Coki: I am so bad at checking my to dos and my calendars!
▶ Magdaloony: Tak!! Da jeg gjorde det nye design gennemgik jeg alle mine links og stadig var der SÅ mange at blogroll måtte blive en hel side for sig selv - tak fordi du blogger også!
▶ Tin.e: It is certainly something one needs to learn -I know the feeling, that it does not come naturally - but that can change. Once you feel at home it will seem natural to join conversations everywhere!

looks and sounds delicious!

chai with milk (or a fancy chai latte) is one of my favorite drinks, but i feel the more popular it becomes, the worse is the quality served at the coffee shops. nowadays all you seem to get is indeed some powder that already contains the milk and the sugar - YUK! no more real tea. so i make it at home, with a tea mix. yours looks very authentic!

Årh, det lyder godt. Var krydderiblandingen dyr?

Yeah! I totally hold it up with Fenke - just do it at home and you´ll get the Taste. Those upsweetet "Chais" at the Coffee-Stores mostly suck because they don´t cook them anymore.

By the Way: In Farsi the Word "Chai" just means "Tea", nothing more. :)

yeah they are gonna open a place like that in Oslo too, next year... Not the kind of marked I am used too in Italy either.. But.. as long as it helps to wake up a little food love in the people I guess it is ok. I have never tried chai, that looks really good though! have a nice weekend!

Torvehallerne isn't my cup of tea either.. Get it?

Funny. I just posted my favourite homemade Chai recipe, too. Chai is excellent for cold winter days.

My friends Mum taught me how to make chai tea from scratch and it is so amazingly different from the frothy cafe style stuff. I love it with whole peppercorns and lots of ginger. Spicy and delicious!
